Dance Republic commissioned Sand Art Dance
Working with Bill throughout our company beach clean-up event was a truly positive experience. Not only was his sand art visually impressive on a creative level, but it also perfectly aligned with our sustainability goals by using only natural materials with no lasting impact on the environment. His work really enhanced our campaigns message and made a memorable impact, bringing the team together. His ability to adapt and make last minute changes helped to relieve the pressure of event planning. The professional photography equipment that Bill brought including drone cameras for a bird’s eye view of the art was invaluable to capturing footage of our event to share within our company and on media platforms.
0:00 Speaking of fun facts with idioms regarding outsourcing: "A cup of tea solves all problems," or also "Keep calm and carry on."
0:08 Cornwall is located in the southwest of England and captivates with around 700 kilometers of coastline, more than 300 beaches, and creativity.
0:16 Many artists have settled in the county. Take Bill Bartlett, for example: his canvas is Polzeath Beach, where he creates geometric works of art.
0:31 He shows us how it's done. "Bill, I love your art. It looks as if aliens made it."
0:40 "A lot of people say that. It really looks like it." "As a mere mortal, I'm sure I can't do that."
0:47 "Even someone like you can do it. I know it's hard to believe, but I can show you how to make something like this within ten minutes."
0:54 The goal is for everyone to become an artist themselves. Painting is done with a stick and a standard rake.
1:02 "I'll show you how to draw a heart." How romantic, it fits perfectly with Cornwall. To draw an evenly shaped heart, Bill outlines three circles in the sand: two on top, one on the bottom.
1:11 Then he traces a stick along the outer edge of the circles—and done.
1:20 "What do you like so much about your art? Why do you do it?" "It's like meditating. You draw repetitive patterns into the sand. It's very relaxing."
1:27 My heart is supposed to be a bit bigger. For that, Bill hands me his largest "pen". Whether my work will actually turn into great heart cinema remains to be seen. At least my circles are round.
1:42 [Music]
1:45 This is the kind of really heavy-handed art that suits me better. Using the rake, my heart is now supposed to become visible.
1:51 [Music]
1:56 "I look totally relaxed," he says. "Look ahead, it's more fun." Sand art can only be done at low tide.
2:03 Once the high tide comes, everything is gone again. So let's go before the water rises. A course with Bill lasts about two hours.
2:11 And the best way to marvel at the artwork in its full size is from above. There they are, my hearts! Bill actually managed to do the impossible and turn me into an artist.
2:20 "How do you feel now?" "I admit my expectations were very low, but you have created something truly amazing. Congratulations!"
2:27 By the way, the famous Pentire Point is right next door and is a popular motif among artists.
2:34 That's why I'm making this impressive rock formation our Insta hotspot #beachart. From there, Bill accompanies me a little way along the North Cornwall Coast Path.
2:42 Hiking is an experience everywhere here.
2:51 I end up alone in the fishing village of Port Isaac. Narrow alleys wind through the small coastal village, framed by beautiful cottages.
3:01 It already smells so good...
